All We Have Is Now

A poem

In the middle of the Black Forest, you cannot hear the
cars on the highways that snake through the mountains,
and the towns are miles and miles apart,
and the birds sing a little louder,
and the trees dance as they whisper secrets;
I stumble upon graffiti etched into the side of a railing
in white paint. It says: all we have is now. Is it the work
of Mother Nature? A reminder from the universe? The
handiwork of kids who got lost among the trees? A note
from lovers who met in quiet?
All we have is now. The words thunder in my brain amidst
the quiet of the forest. All we have is now to dream. To
learn. To love. To live. To wait until the perfect moment
to tell the ones in our lives how much we adore them
would be a crime, so do it now. Show them how much
they are appreciated. Tell them how much you cherish
every hair on their head. Now is what you have,
and now is when you start.
