Bloom Accordingly
A poem and a lesson from Joshua Trees
I once read that Joshua Trees do not follow a yearly blooming schedule; they bloom sporadically, depending on rainfall and temperature, making their flowering pattern somewhat unpredictable. And yet, they are the prize of the Mojave Desert, with hundreds of thousands of people traveling every year to take in their beauty.
Nowadays, it’s far too easy to compare the successes and joys of your life to someone else, usually from the other side of the screen. But perhaps when the urge to compare starts sneaking into your psyche, and you start to doubt the timing of your life, the choices you’ve made thus far, and whether or not you’re hitting the milestones that others have sketched out for you, you’d do well to remember the Joshua Tree — and let yourself bloom accordingly.
