I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire

A poem for everyone

I want to pour water on the scorched earth,
I want to spread a soothing balm on angry wounds,
I want to whisper words that will feel like milk and honey
and a warm hug from your mama;
I want to sing songs that will make others feel a little more
alive and a little less alone,
I want to be a better wife, mother, daughter, neighbor, wife,
and friend;
I want to encourage the kind of conversation that makes others
think a little deeper about themselves
and the world around them,
I want to plant the kinds of seeds that will bloom for generations to come,
I want shame to be a thing of the past,
I want joy to be something of abundance,
I want happiness to be something everyone can hold.
