In A World Where You Can Be Anything

In a world where you can be anthing, be little more patient. Be the person who doesn’t complain when the food at the restaurant is taking a little too long for your liking. Be the one who doesn’t rush an older person when they’re trying to tell you a story. The one who lets a little kid figure out what they want to say without you finishing the sentence. Be someone who spreads a little more joy and a little more cheer. Someone who is loud about the things that they love. Someone who is unafraid to name the beauty that they see. Be someone comfortable talking about feelings — even when they’re messy. Someone who will listen to understand, not to retort. Someone who will believe in the good in people. Someone who reads. Someone who votes. Someone who thinks about what they say before they say it and knows that feelings are the very thing that makes us human.

In a world where you can be anything, be a little soft. Be unafraid to dull your edges and open your arms. Be the kind of person who says no to violence, and hatred, and callousness. The type of human who is a champion for the tender parts of our souls that we are so quick to hide. The kind of human unafraid to change their mind when presented with new information. Someone who chooses to fill the cracks of hatred with love. Someone who picks people up from the airport without a second thought. Someone who always pulls up extra chairs at their table when it’s time for dinner.
