It is loud / and it is boisterous / and it will tell everyone about it on the social media drug of their choosing / It is a donation link / it is a food drive / it is supporting someone’s art / It is cooking dinner for your friend who just had a baby / it is making a birthday cake from scratch / and brownies from a box / and opening your home and pulling up another seat at the table to feed the ones who need a little nourishment / in their bodies / but also their souls / It is the little kid in your life that makes you a card / and picks you a flower / and hands you a cookie to share, even after it has fallen in the dirt / It is the face of educators who teach our kids the alphabet / and science / and how to write / and how to think beyond what they cannot see / It is the doctors in the hospital who missed one too many family parties / but there they watch / and sit / and care for the ones who need them / It is how your friend will sit with you in silence / and another will cheer you on with gusto / It is how the best people will find a way / to meet you where you’re at / and walk beside you as you continue to where you’d like to go.
