The Things That Make Us Fall In Love
A poem for lasting romance
--
The way their eyes seem to sparkle as they talk,
a smile that makes our insides melt like butter on a warm slice of bread,
and an embrace that feels like home.
The taste of their lips upon yours,
the excitement of tangled limbs and interwoven hearts,
the safety of standing naked in your body
and in your thoughts.
The conversation that flows as easily as water
and tastes as good as wine,
and listens to what you want and
what you feel and
what you need.
The way the quiet never feels scary and
their arms around you always feel safe and
the joys that they experience and the success that they have
makes you elated
and excited,
too.
The promise of forever and the courage to choose it,
even when it’s hard,
even when life throws you curveballs.
The knowledge that you could live without them,
but you don’t ever want to —
for when you’re with them,
food tastes better
and colors seem brighter;
for they are your home
and your greatest adventure.
