Things My Toddler Teaches Me
A poem
That bubbles are always worth getting excited about,
even if you play with them daily.
That food can be, and should be, nutritious and fun.
That you can never have enough fruit in the house.
That I should be drinking more water.
That books are filled with wonder,
and the remote for the television is, too.
That one should always hug the ones they love,
and there is always time for cuddles.
That rocks are better than blocks and toys and sometimes,
even bubbles.
That lullabies will always soothe the soul,
even when you’re grown.
That stuffed animals have a personality.
That a tube from the paper towel roll is never just a tube — but a wand.
A drumstick. A sword. A telescope.
That you should always say hi to people you meet.
That leading with your heart is a beautiful trait,
and you should never let the world try and take that from you.
That this world is full of beauty, and ordinary magic,
and extraordinary things.
That when you fall down,
you should reach for,
and seek out,
the ones who will help you clean your scraped knees.
