When your grandma makes sure to mail you a birthday card and finds one that sings and rhymes / When singing the lyrics to your favorite song makes breathing through the heartbreak a little easier / When you dive into the pages of a new book and the characters feel like long lost friends / When your spouse or partner thanks you for the little things that you do every day / and says “I love you” without the prompting of a special occasion / When your friends send you text messages just to check in / and make you laugh / and remind you that you are not alone / When you read a bedtime story to your babies / When the words of a lullaby soothe both of your souls / When your people cover you in words that remind you of the magic that is within you / When you can whisper those words to yourself / and believe them / When you realize that the words we speak and share can change / and shift / and shape a life.
